Increase Mather
Joint Rector of St Tida's and Maghera - 1657...
Increase Mather (father of Cotton Mather) studied at Trinity
College, Dublin and had been appointed under the Cromwell's Protectorate
to the parishes of Ballyscullion and Magherafelt in 1657 - Two of his uncles
were, at the same time, ministers in Dublin City. Cromwell's death in
1658 put a sudden end to his soujourn in Bellaghy and he departed to
become a chaplain to a military regiment in the Channel Islands.
