A new book of poems by St Tida's Church
Member, Richard Frew has been launched in Ballyscullion Parish,
Bellaghy in aid of:
This selection of verse entitled "Our
Ballroom of Romance" published by Drumlamph Books,
features a collection of Richard's own work in which he captures a
range of emotions including humour, sadness, fear, love and
disappointment.
The front cover of the book displays a
photograph of the
Cossacks Showband Ballymena, taken
in 1964. The members of the band, which was highly popular in
Mid-Ulster at the time, are woven into and remembered in the
title poem which tells of the birth and demise of the small
rural dance halls in the 1960’s.
If you have ever felt like a fish out of
water in our divided society you will relate to the feelings
expressed in a true story as told in "The Flower of Ardboe."
Perhaps you have under-valued something,
then "Granny’s Chiming Clock" will bring it all back.
Do you remember your first date? If not,
you will when you read "Sweet Sixteen!"
"Memoirs of a Kitchen Table"
summarises the issues of concern which may be raised when a range of
age groups, from the young to those of a certain age, gather around
the kitchen table for a cup of tea and a chat.
The poems in this
book of verse are designed to entertain and would make an excellent
gift for any occasion.
