Church Roof Replacement
The 200 year-old roof
of the church has lately been showing its age by the increasing number of
slates becoming loose or detached during winter storms. Sustained
maintenance has ensured that no leak ever occurred until just recently.
However our architect has advised that the slates have all become
dangerously worn at the nail-holes and really need completely replaced.
Some, but not all, of the roof timbers may also need to be renewed as well
as some top parts of the spire.
-
Because of
considerable public interest this church is
designated as a grade 'B' listed building - This means that any remedial
work has to be done as close as possible to the 1794 specifications. The
original slates were 'Bangor Blues' from Wales and are thankfully still in
production, albeit limited, but with the associated and rather daunting cost
implications.
-
The church members are
determined to replace the roof as soon as possible. Planning Permission
and Building Control Consent are both actively being sought.

Public Donations
This project is likely
to cost over £100,000 and the church members really do need your help in
what appears to be a major replacement exercise!
They have already
started last year (2009) to raise funds from the general public for the
task. They began with
'Fergie-Afloat'
to raise awareness and cash. The 'Fireside Quiz' has recently ended and
further organised events are planned
over the next year to maintain the momentum.
You can still feel good about donating privately?
The members of St Tida's Church ask you
to consider donating a small sum to help them manage the project - say £10 -
or whatever you can really feel good about.
Use the 'Donate' button at the foot of
this page to send your donation securely. This also automatically keeps a
record of each transaction for our audit purposes and can be inspected if
necessary.
We will personally acknowledge our
gratitude for each and every donation by e-mail or letter as
appropriate and also display the current state of the appeal on this page.
The St. Tida's 'Roof-meter' on the
right shows the target fund in red with the already saved funds rising
from the bottom in blue.
