Earlier
....
Earlier this year the church committee was
very pleased to receive a surprise offer from not just one, but two of the younger generation
to participate in nothing less than a sponsored parachute jump to provide much-needed finance
for the repair of the church roof.
And its Girl
Power too!!
And the excitement continued to grow when it
was learned that one of the rookie parachutists was a young
lady!
Parish
members William Davison and
Judith Overend have decided to hop out of an aeroplane flying over an airfield near Garvagh, on
the morning of Sunday 10th July this year. The first jump starts at approximately 9:15am
(weather permitting).
More
details will be posted here later ...
Urgent need
to replace Church Roof!
When the members of the church discovered that there was an absolute need to
replace the ageing, and very tired, roof of their 220 year-old building they quickly realised
that the costs would be gigantic.
The present roof went on in
c1793
The new one has to be as close as possible to the
original specification due to the church's 'listed' status. Being 'listed' means that the
general public also have a desire to see this building repaired with its original
architecture and internal furniture kept intact for future generations to
view.
This
means using the very expensive 'bangor blue'
slates.
The tip of the spire has also been found to
require some essential maintenance to stop water ingress.
All of the planned works will be done together to
minimise the cost and to alleviate the inconvenience to the public.
Fundraising
Events
A number of exciting fundraising ideas were planned and executed during the past couple
of years. All of them were designed to be fun and subsequently proved to be thoroughly enjoyable
and profitable.

Fundraising
Events
Those parish members whose stomachs do not
quite lie to jumping out of an aircraft, first thing in the morning, are busy asking
their friends and neighbours for sponsorship for this terrifying adventure. The public
are asked to consider giving generously to make these young skydivers' task
worthwhile.
The
sponsorship can be enhanced if the gift is from a UK taxpayer and he/she signs the consent part
of the sponsorship form. This permits the church treasurer to recoup another separate 25% from
HM Revenue & Customs.
